‘He gave me three versions, and I took the hardest one. I said, “I want that one,”‘ he recalled.

‘I had to prove I can do it. I was 91 I think.’

Aside from the highs of his career, Dick also reflected on some of the more difficult parts of his life, including the revelation he was a recovering alcoholic.

The actor revealed his struggles on The Dick Cavett Show in 1974, an era in which such topics were difficult to discuss publicly.

‘I had friends who said “You’re crazy,”‘ Dick said. ‘But it seemed to help a lot of people, I got a lot of mail from people who have said, “If you can do it, I can do it.”‘

Dick was recently recognized for his decades-long career at the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors with a lifetime achievement award.

But the actor isn’t stopping there: ‘I think the next thing is a knighthood,’ he told The Mirror

‘Recognition from your peers is always icing on the cake. How did I get to a Kennedy award? I never trained or did anything. I just enjoyed myself,’ he told the site.

The icon also joked: ‘I just turned 95, so I’m happy to be anywhere. Had I known I’d live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself.’
